Are You Familiar With the Reset Course Content Button?
In the Course Details of the Course Settings menu, you may have noticed an option called “Reset Course Content.” This is a powerful setting option within your course; in fact, it is so powerful that we on the EdTech team wanted to take a few moments to review its functionality with you.
What does resetting course content do?
Resetting course content permanently removes all content from the canvas course, and it cannot be recovered. This means that any modules, assignments, pages, quizzes, LTI tools added at the course level – all of these are removed. The Canvas course resets to a blank shell without any content. Any student enrollments will remain intact, but once you reset the course it will become unpublished and will not be visible to students until the course is once again published.
When and why would you want to reset course content?
Resetting course content should only occur before the beginning of a semester when you are still developing course material (or at any point within your sandbox). For example, if you accidentally imported course material from the wrong course into the new course you are developing, then resetting course content is a quick and easy way to remove the imported material and start over. You should only use this option in the development stage. Avoid resetting course content after the semester has started or if students have submitted assignments.
What happens if you accidentally reset course content and the content that you wanted has disappeared?
Email EdTech@fscj.edu IMMEDIATELY. There is no guarantee that the deleted content can be recovered, but depending on when the reset happened and the content, we will try our best to restore what we can. Review the Canvas guide to Resetting Course Content for more information.
